- ทอร์นาโด (tornado อ่านว่า ทอร์เนโด) เป็นพายุที่เกิดจากการหมุนของอากาศ สามารถเกิดขึ้นได้ในหลายลักษณะ โดยลักษณะที่พบได้บ่อยสุด คือ ลักษณะรูปทรงกรวย โดยส่วนปลายโคนชี้ลงที่พื้น ทอร์นาโดสามารถก่อพลังทำลายได้สูง โดยความเร็วลมสามารถสูงมากถึง 500 กิโลเมตร/ชั่วโมง (300 ไมล์/ชั่วโมง) ซึ่งสามารถทำลายสิ่งก่อสร้างได้ ทอร์นาโดเกิดขึ้นจากลมร้อนและลมเย็นมาเจอกันและก่อตัวให้เกิดลมหมุน และเมื่อลมหมุนในระดับที่ไม่คงที่ ทำให้ปลายข้างหนึ่งลงมาสัมผัสที่พื้นก่อให้เกิดทอร์นาโดได้ โดยทอร์นาโดส่วนใหญ่เกิดในสหรัฐอเมริกาเนื่องจากมีสภาพ ภูมิประเทศที่สามารถก่อให้เกิดลมร้อนและไอเย็นปะทะกันบริเวณทุ่งราบ ทอร์นาโดแบ่งออกเป็นหลายระดับตามกำลังทำลายและความเร็วลม โดยแบ่งเป็น F0-F5 โดย F0 เป็นทอร์นาโดที่อ่อนกำลังสุด และ F5 เป็นทอร์นาโดที่กำลังแรงสุด
